Alzheimer’s disease is a neurological disorder characterized by a steady decline in cognitive ability. It is the most common form of dementia. There are several stages of the illness and some people may develop the early-onset form of the disease. In the United States, nearly 5 million citizens currently suffer from Alzheimer’s disease. Worldwide assessments place the total number of dementia cases between 20 and 30 million. With humans living longer, experts predict that the number of people Alzheimer’s affects will triple by 2050.
