Beyond Planning A Fabulous Fundraising Event

There is a big difference between planning the best fundraising event and actually hosting one. Many people are quite competent at the planning stages. It’s fun to throw around great ideas and create elaborate plans. When those plans and ideas turn out to be impractical when looking at the budget or the time commitment, there are more great ideas following right behind the first set.

Going beyond planning and into the actual hosting requires a great idea, practical applications, budget and time commitment obligations, and of course, a turn out. That means that once the event is planned and approved that someone has to be responsible for getting people there and ensuring that all of the details are complete. This does not typically happen when the planning and the actual hosting are left to the same individual. This is because there are creative thinkers and then there are practical doers. Thus, there can be a big difference in the quality of the event when you have a planner who also tries to do the hosting. Most of the time you simply need more than one person.

You need the creative thinkers that can plan the fabulous fundraising event while you have those who can take those plans and make them just as fabulous in a completely financially viable manner. This helps to even out the process, gets everyone involved, and then puts the actual event together in a way that is successful. Once you have established such a routine, it can be hard to break. This only works for a short time with so many events because eventually the ideas run out, are repeated, or were already done by someone else.

Thus, your thinkers and your doers need to come together as a common entity and learn a new approach. There are many ideas that never get launched, but then there are some ideas that are so great that they work year in and year out without having to add much but the flair that your organization provides. Golf fundraisers are certainly one of those ideas. The thinkers understand that there is a chance to make it fun, fabulous, and creatively wonderful while the doers see that this type of fundraiser is not only achievable but when done the right way it is actually unlikely to fail. With minimal commitment in time and money the entire organization can have the event crowded with people who are ready to support the organization and have a great time.

The steps in between planning the best fundraising event and hosting one do not have to be nearly as difficult as they often are when you’re starting from scratch. While many formula plans aren’t that exciting, using a golf tournament can be one of the fastest ways to improve the organization’s bottom line. Fortunately, your thinkers and doers can agree on how successful the golf tournament will be, can insert their input but ultimately learn a whole new approach to fundraising that has filled many non-profit groups to the rim.
