5 Time Management Tips For Busy Non Profit Executives
It’s a common feeling among nonprofit fundraising staff that they have more to do than they can get done. There’s so much to do and the work never seems to end. It’s easy to get overwhelmed.
Time management is one of the most important skills that a nonprofit executive can master. Being able to focus on priorities and get things done can make all the difference in raising money.
Here are 5 tips for effectively managing your time:.
Know yourself and when you are most productive. Schedule your intensive thinking projects for the time of day when you are most alert.
It was announced recently that one of the nation’s most prestigious universities is letting nearly 200 staffers go because one of their endowments has been reduced to $26 billion. Neither the president, nor the department heads, nor any of the faculty will be affected, and neither will the construction of new buildings.
A challenge. Suspense or drama is the second ingredient that helps attract the media. This might take the form of a contest (who will win?), an attempt to break a record (such as the world’s biggest potluck dinner), a surprising comeback attempt (septuagenarians for Saturn High) or a fundraising wilderness trek (combating snakes, swamps and no sense of direction). And yes, publicity stunts still work.
The only difference between a for-profit and a nonprofit corporation is in where the profit goes. In the corporate world, it goes to the stock holders. In the nonprofit realm, it goes to the organization’s important people, to beneficial projects of all kinds, and largely to new buildings.
Even though tuition keeps going up, and even though the excess income is difficult to hide, the quality of education does not change. The old principle that you get what you pay for does not fit well when it comes to higher education.
