The needs in any charitable organization tend to outgrow resources, even though they may receive some type of funding from state/federal taxes. Donations are collected for people in need and people get a chance to bid on an item or service that they want or need. If you are going to put it on yourself, then make sure that you have extra volunteers on hand to ensure things run smoothly.

You may feel that with the current economy this type of a fundraiser or even any type of charitable event would not produce the desired results. Actually, the opposite may be closer to reality, as people are looking for ways to indulge themselves affordably. Bidding on donated items or services is one way that they can do this and the money goes to a great cause as well.

So, what type of charity auction would work best for your needs? One very popular theme is bidding for a date with the most eligible bachelors or bachelorettes, possibly even a combination of the two. Or, you can have local businesses donate goods or services for the event, perhaps for some type of a related theme. For example, you could auction off a trip to a sun-filled beach vacation with bidding available on related items, perhaps car rentals or hotel stays.
